F.A.Q.’s

You may have lots of questions about undertaking a project. Here we aim to provide some helpful answers, and we’re just a phone call away, contact us with your questions.
 

  • When can you start?
    If we are provided with drawings/plans, we usually require 1 week for finalizing the contract, 1 week to apply for building permit, 3-4 weeks to get permit approved (assuming there will be no problems), and then usually 2 weeks to schedule start date, pending current work load and weather.
     
  • How long will my project take?
    Every project is custom, so completion times will vary. A basic addition will take about 3 months, more extensive additions with bathroom/kitchens/custom items can be 6 months or longer. A preliminary schedule will be developed and reviewed with you. If you have a deadline to meet we can discuss and try to accommodate by expediting the project.
     
  • Will my place get dirty? How clean is the jobsite?
    Although it is a construction site and there will be dust and debris, we keep driveways and yards as clean as possible, install plastic sheeting and dust barriers, broom-clean the site weekly, and offer a portable restroom on site. Any special concerns can be discussed on an individual basis.
     
  • Will I be kept informed? How will we communicate?
    We will keep you up-to-date with all decisions that need to be made. We will provide you with a selection worksheet near the beginning of the job to guide you with the choices to be made. We always return phone calls, usually within one business day.
     
  • Will it cost more than the estimate? Are there any hidden costs?
    Once we agree on the scope of work and the cost of project, there are no hidden costs – unless you add additional work or your house needs additional repairs. All costs are spelled out in the contract.
     
  • How many jobs does Collie Construction handle at one time? Will there be a break in my project or do you work continuously?
    We average 4-7 jobs at one time depending on the season, overlaps, and size of the jobs, but we will not leave or stop your job to complete other projects. There may be a day or so gap in the schedule due to materials delivery, scheduling, weather, etc., but you will certainly be informed of what is going on. Once we start a project we work through to completion. No exceptions.
     
  • How long has Collie Construction been in business? What is the experience of the lead people?

  • Can I as the homeowner help make the project go more smoothly?
    Yes, we value your time and you can make the project/process easier by making selections and decisions as required, having financing in place, making payments on time, moving personal belongings, clearing work areas, and letting us know any concerns or issues up front.
     
  • Can construction work be started or completed in the winter?
    Yes, only drastic weather affects the start of a job. Projects can be started year-round.
     
  • Are you insured?
    Yes, Collie Construction is insured and carries all necessary liability and workers’ compensation. Certificate of insurance can be furnished upon request.
